| Have just had yet another brilliant week-end at the Cross Keys. As always Brian and Yvonne made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were as always, clean and comfortable (have so far stayed in four of the rooms.) We enjoyed an impromptu pub quiz on Friday evening and were entertained by a couple of the locals. After an indulgent shopping experience at the Gretna Gateway on the Saturday we returned to the hotel to enjoy the carvery which, can truly only be described as the best meal we've ever eaten! The next day we were able to walk off our excesses as the local walks are breathtaking.
We look forward very much to our next visit to the Cross Keys, thank you Yvonne and Brian xx |

| My partner and I were getting married in Gretna and decided to stay in the Cross Keys Hotel in Canonbie which is about 8 miles from Gretna. Canonbie is a small friendly village which includes a post office/small shop,a village hall and a tea shop. A short walk from the hotel is the park which includes a childrens play area, a football pitch, tennis courts and a bowls green. Flowing along side the park is the River Esk which is one of the nicest rivers i have seen, if you go through the graveyard there is a lovely walk you can take along the river.
Fifteen of us stayed at the hotel and eleven others stayed in a guest house about six miles away. The hotel is a 17th century coach inn with a cosy bar with friendly locals, a lounge bar,a restaurant and tables outside. Before going we were affraid of the rooms being too small due to its age but we need'nt have worried as they were very comfortable with en-suites. Brian, Yvonne and their staff were very friendly and their service was 1st class. On Saturday and Sunday the hotel does a carvery (we all thought it was the best carvery we had tasted) and people come from afar just for this. On the friday night we ate in the restaurant and the food was very filling and lovely. Afterwards some of the family sat outside having a few drinks the rest of us joined the very friendly locals in the bar. On saturday we got married at Anvil Hall (brilliant) in Gretna. We then went back to the hotel for drinks before having the excellent carvery at 5.30pm, for which we were given our own room. We had a lovely night celebrating either in the bar or sitting outside and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We will definately be going back for a break in the future. Everything was as we wanted it - perfect. |

| I stayed at the Crosskeys for two nights in July for a family get together and could not recommend it more highly. The service from Brian, Yvonne and their staff was outstanding from the moment we arrived until the moment we left.
My room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and, being at the back of the hotel, very quiet. The food was excellent and plentiful. All in all, it was a great weekend. |

| The hotel is situated approximately 10 miles outside of Gretna. We searched high and low for a nice country pub for our wedding reception. We were fortunate in that we found the Cross Keys. Its set in the small village of Canonbie and has recently been refurbished. The pub has 2 main bars with modern flat screen t'vs and open fires. They also have a large main hall capable of seating upto 60 guests and are very flexible when it comes to planning for an event. We found most of the Gretna hotels to be very restrictive when planning our reception with set prices for everything. The Cross Keys allowed us to dress the room in the way we wanted and helped set it up. Rather than a standard wedding buffet we went for the pubs own Carvery on the Saturday for all our guests. We could not have picked anything better with 3 joints of local produce meats, a veggie option and lots of roast veg. All our guests devoured this meal and everyone commented how wonderful the food was. It really was an excellent meal. The staff and owners were very helpful and a special mention goes to Shaun who was on hand to make sure everything went smoothly on our big day.
We were slightly disappointed we had not waited to book our accomodation as our 2 friends who stayed at the hotel said it was very clean, modern and reasonable. Their room had a flat screen tv and en-suite. They had a great time chatting to the locals in the bar later that night. |
